Option 2: Send Your Sample Directly
Submit a completed request form (insert link) together with:
- Whole blood collected in a lithium heparin tube (green cap), or
- Plasma obtained from lithium heparin blood
The required sample volume depends on the number of analytes requested. Therefore, we recommend contacting the Department Manager prior to submission to confirm the exact volume needed for your study.
Sample Requirements
To ensure high-quality and reliable results:
- Fresh samples are strongly recommended.
- If immediate analysis is not possible, samples should be centrifuged and plasma stored at 2–8°C or at -20°.
- Samples should be shipped to the laboratory as soon as possible after collection
- Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
- Ensure proper labelling and secure packaging to prevent leakage or transport damage.

One of the major challenges in avian and reptile haematology is the presence of nucleated red blood cells, which can interfere with conventional automated blood cell counting methods. To overcome this limitation, Poulpharm utilizes specialized analytical equipment capable of accurately distinguishing red blood cells from white blood cells, ensuring precise and reliable cell counts.
For white blood cell differential analysis, we employ automated blood smear preparation technology that produces high-quality, standardized smears while minimizing artefacts, cell clumping, and sample variability. These smears are subsequently evaluated by experienced laboratory professionals, combining the advantages of automation with expert microscopic assessment.

If you would like to submit a blood sample for haematological analysis, there are two options:

Submit a minimum of 500 µL of whole blood collected in an EDTA tube (purple cap) together with the completed request form (insert link).
Sample Requirements
To ensure the highest analytical quality, fresh blood samples are preferred. If immediate shipment is not possible:
- Store samples refrigerated at 2–8°C.
- Samples should reach the laboratory within 48 hours of collection.
- Do not freeze whole blood samples.
- To prevent clot formation, gently invert the tube several times immediately after collection and again before shipment.
- Ensure that samples are correctly labelled and packaged to avoid transport-related damage.
